Erskine Farm

Why Highland Cattle at the Erskine Farm?

We have a lot of poor and rocky New England soil and the cows are ideally suited for this terrain. They also require little attention so I can be out showing property. By keeping a certain amount of farming activity on the land we are able to keep it in 61A-tax status.

They are also the cutest lawn ornaments arround!

What do we do with them?

Not much.

We sell a few every year and mostly just watch and enjoy them. If you are interested in buying one or two (they get lonely by themselves) call us!

Do they shed!

Yes, in the spring and fall.

Do they mind the cold weather?

No, in fact this year we had three calves born in three different snowstorms! They do not like it really hot though, and then you will find them lounging in the pond water up to their necks.

Why are they wearing bells?

So we can hear where they are. There are about 70 acres fenced and we can usually find them by sound.

Do they all have horns?

Yes the males go down and the females turn up. They will get to about a 6-foot spread when full grown.

Do they like treats?

Yes- especially stale bread, apples and corn. They also will eat pumpkins, squash, and the occasional Christmas tree.

Do you name them?

Yes we are always looking for good name ideas. They are registered and pure bred so they all need names.

What has this got to do with real estate?

They are cuter than looking at pictures of our brokers!
